Over the past week, our team had the privilege of representing Emerge Livelihoods at two influential events held in Lilongwe: the Umunthu Social Impact Forum organized by Thrive Afrika, and the ICTAM ICT Expo & Corporate Awards.

At the Umunthu Social Impact Forum, our Managing Director, Wangiwe Joanna Kambuzi, and Communications & Marketing Lead, Litness Chaima, joined dynamic thinkers and changemakers under the theme “Beyond Aid: Reimagining the Future of Malawi’s Development.”

This theme sparked critical questions, particularly one that lingered with our MD
“How can we place investment and sustainability at the center of all the important work we deliver? As we work to amplify self-reliance for individuals and communities — can this translate to our organizations too?”

As a platform rooted in enabling change and championing innovation across Africa, this question challenges us to think deeper about our own organizational sustainability, beyond program delivery.

Notable institutions present included Standard Bank Malawi, the National Planning Commission, VillageReach, Habitat for Humanity Malawi, and more, all contributing to reimagining Malawi’s path to development.

Meanwhile, at the ICTAM ICT Expo held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), our ICT team was actively engaging with tech professionals from across Malawi. The event focused on enhancing digital leadership and strategies for mastering productivity in an evolving digital economy.

A highlight was our ICT Director’s training session with over 50 ICT professionals, where he introduced the concept of digital productivity. Many participants were encountering this topic for the first time, and the training became a springboard for important discussions about efficiency, sustainable work ethics, and the barriers to self-reliance. Our Technical Operations Lead, Twambilile Mwalwanda, also served as a panelist on a topic discussion “Harnessing E-Commerce and Digital Platforms for MSME Growth”.

One major takeaway:
Productivity isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a cornerstone of personal growth, organizational success, and national development.

We were also publicly acknowledged during the event by keynote speakers for our contribution to Malawi’s digital progress, a moment that reaffirms the meaningful impact of our work.Through our consistent efforts in technology training and inclusive digital outreach, Emerge Livelihoods is becoming a recognised driver of Malawi’s digital transformation — helping children, women, men, and the elderly integrate tech into their lives.
